Activities on St. Barths |

Though St. Barths is known more for its cuisine than outdoor activities, a wide array of St. Barths rentals will tempt any gourmet away from the restaurants for an exciting day in the sun. Various activities include the rental of boat charters, watersports equipment, and rentals of the wheeled variety, all of which provide the opportunity to explore what natural wonders St. Barths has to offer. On-island ActivitiesVarious land activities are available on St. Barths…Hiking is a popular activity where the island has trails from Flamands to Colombier and from Marigot to Vitet. The local Tourist Office can provide maps and suggestions of hiking spots. Horseback riding is another possibility, with two hour excursions available in the mornings and afternoons. There are various tennis courts on the island for the tennis enthusiasts. In addition, a wide variety of sporting activities including volleyball, fencing, squash, archery, yoga and martial arts are also available in St. Barths. Water ActivitiesEnjoy the many options that St. Barths offers for water sports enthusiasts. The beaches of St. Jean and Lorient are very calm, perfect for children and swimming. Body surfers may prefer the waves of Anse des Cayes, Saline, Flamands or "Washing Machine". The windsurfing conditions are ideal at Grand Cul-de-Sac, St. Jean or Lorient. For board surfers, Pointe Milou (near the Christopher), Toiny and Anse des Lézards often provide excellent conditions. Snorkeling opportunities abound throughout the island. Snorkel gear is available at various shops around the island. Scuba diving lessons, equipment and trips are offered by diving services in Gustavia and St. Jean. Water-skiing is available, but jet skis are required to keep away from the beaches for safety and noise considerations. Gentle winds at St. Jean, Grand Cul-de-Sac, Public and Colombier make Sunfish sailing especially pleasant on the waters of these beaches. Boat Rentals & Yacht ChartersSt. Barth's popularity in the world of yachting is due in part to its geographical location about midway between Antigua and Virgin Gorda, two major sailing centers. While still uncrowded, the island could take, if necessary, 500 yachts, most of course, at anchor. Gustavia's harbor, 13 to 16 feet deep, has mooring and docking facilities for about 40 yachts. There are also fine anchorages at nearby Public, Corossol and Colombier. St. Barths has all the conveniences sailors need: fuel, water, ice, a well-stocked chandlery, supermarkets, duty-free liquor and fine French dining. |
